Music has a magical way of touching us, by lifting our spirits, calming our minds, and helping us power through life’s ups and downs. Yet, surprisingly, many of us don’t make a conscious effort to bring more music into our daily lives. Let’s change that! Here are three easy ways to weave more music into your life:
1. Create Your Go-To Playlist
Think of a playlist as your personal soundtrack for life, with songs that help you:
- Focus on a tricky task
- Tackle chores
- Boost your energy
- Relax or calm down
Here are a few songs I’ve reserved for specific moments. I love having a playlist handy, so I can hit play whenever life calls for a little musical magic.
- Sleep Away, by Bob Acri: for mentally challenging tasks, like writing a report.
- Gone Country, by Alan Jackson: for powering through household chores.
- Be Good/ The Lions Song, by Gregory Porter: for creative or feel-good moments.
2. Make a Musical Autobiography
Take a trip down memory lane by picking songs that marked key moments in your life. Maybe it’s the first song you danced to, a tune that got you through high school, or a track that reminds you of summer vacations.
Once you’ve gathered your songs, compile them into a playlist. Then, share your “musical memoir” with friends the same way you might share old photos. Listening together is a fun, emotional way to relive memories.
3. Support the Artists You Love
Music is a gift, and the people behind it deserve support. Make it a goal to attend at least one live concert a year. You’ll enjoy the thrill of a live performance while helping the artists who bring joy to your life.
